Baby Feeding Guide: Age-by-Age Guidelines

From Birth to 4 Months

This is one of the most important parts of parenting. At this point, the digestive tract of your baby is still developing. Solid food items are not allowed. 

4 to 6 months / 6 to 8 months / 8 to 10 months

4 to 6 months

  • Pureed meat, beef chicken and pork
  • Semi-liquid and iron-fortified cereal
  • Little amounts of unsweetened yogurt; Don’t introduce cow milk until age 1
  • Formula milk or Breast milk 
  • Pureed vegetables, sweet potatoes and squash
  • Pureed fruit, peaches, apples and bananas

6 to 8 months

  • Pureed legumes, fava beans, black beans, edamame, chickpeas, black-eyed peas, lentils and kidney beans
  • Iron-fortified cereals, oats and barley
  • Formula milk or Breast milk
  • Strained or pureed fruits, banana, pears and avocado
  • Strained or Pureed vegetables, well-cooked squash, carrots and sweet potato
  • Pureed meat, beef, pork and chicken
  • Pureed tofu

  • 8 to 10 months

    • Finger foods, small amounts of scrambled eggs, teething crackers, well-cooked spiral pasta and small pieces of bagel
    • Protein, small amounts of poultry, meat, tofu, boneless fish
    • Well-cooked beans, such as split peas, lentils, black beans and pintos
    • Iron-fortified cereals, barley, oats and wheat
    • Formula milk or Breast milk
    • Little amounts of unsweetened yogurt, and soft pasteurized cheese and cottage cheese
    • Mashed fruits, peaches, bananas, avocados and pears
    • Mashed vegetables, cooked potatoes, carrots, squash and sweet potatoes


    • Introduce new baby food products, one at a time. 
    • If the baby won’t eat the food you are offerings the very first time, it’s best to try again in a few days before offering another kind of food. 
    • List down the food items your baby eats. Just in case an adverse reaction occurs, it would be easier to pinpoint the causes. 
    • Remember, the specific order in which you introduce the new food items won’t really matter. 

      10 to 12 months

      By this time, more and more new food items would be introduced to your baby.
